Pravina was born on the Pacific Islands of Fiji and raised in California in the San Francisco Bay Area. She took interest in music early in life by listening to her father play R&B and dance albums of artists such as Michael Jackson, Donna Summer and Abba.
Pravina recalls, “When I first heard my dad’s albums, I knew I wanted to be a singer. I used to set up my dolls to be my audience while I performed with my hair brush as my microphone!” Being of East Indian descent, Pravina also grew up with the movies and music of “Bollywoood” as well. “That’s where my eastern influences come in,” she says. “Bringing both worlds together and fusing the two makes me who I am.”
Pravina has over ten years of vocal training with prestigious and award-winning vocal instructors. She worked and studied with multi-platinum producer Mr. Horus Jack Tolson. Mr. Tolson has worked with and trained such talents as Cindy Lee Herron (En Vogue), Dawn Robinson (En Vogue), Linda Laurence (The Supremes), and soul singer Sylvester. Two of Pravina’s songs produced by Mr. Tolson were in the “Top Songs List” on MP3.COM in 2002-2003. The song “All or Nothing,” written by Pravina, debuted at number 1 in the fall of 2002 (Category: Electronic in San Francisco) and remained in the Top 10 for five months. The song “Give Me One More Chance,” written by Horus Tolson, climbed up the top 100 Song Chart in the summer of 2003 (Category: Urban/R&B in California).
During this time, Pravina performed at various clubs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and collaborated with popular local DJ’s such as Lenny Ruckus (Lenny Douglas) and Slammin’ Sam Maxion. She was featured in DMA: Dance Music Authority Magazine, a monthly American Dance music publication that ran from 1993 to 2003. DMA had a very loyal following during its tenure and was considered the “Bible” of the global dance music industry.
In 2004, Pravina moved to Los Angeles, California. She soon began to study with the internationally distinguished Mr. Edward Sayegh in the style of “Sayegh/Garcia-Marchesi.” Mr. Sayegh has trained major operatic and musical theatre artists and his piano orchestral appearances include a performance for the King and Queen of Jordan. He has worked as a musical consultant with many notable directors, such as Oliver Stone and Steven Spielberg.
Pravina is currently working and studying with Mr. Willie Norwood, Sr. at his Knockout Vocal Studio. He is the father and vocal coach of Grammy superstar Brandy and singer and producer Willie Ray Norwood, Jr. (Ray J). Mr. Norwood’s first commercial album, "’Bout It", received a Dove Award nomination in 2001. He is also the co-star of the VH1 hit reality series “Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business.” Pravina and Mr. Norwood are currently working on her soon to release new single “You’re the One” with producer Mr. Donald Robertson of XL Productions.
Pravina has been ambitious in learning all aspects of music including studying music theory, songwriting on the piano, and playing the guitar. She says, “I am lucky and honored to have worked with the best in the music industry and will continue to better my art and skills.”
